What is it? A design trend that takes our modern moment—MacBooks, iPhones, and all—and filters it back through the lens of 1880s New York or London, when the Industrial Revolution was in full swing, but electricity was not widely available. What does that mean? Well, for a lot of people, it means retrofitting their laptops or BlackBerrys with wood veneers, brass fittings, and embossed leather casings. Think twenty-first century, but with a twist of H.G. Wells or Jules Verne. Major Motifs? Wood, leather, brass, hot air balloons, zeppelins—anything with a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen feel to it.
