Once the home of a Minnesota Supreme Court chief justice, this stellar architectural specimen at 2774 W. Lake of the Isles Parkway sold for the first time in more than a decade in September. The $2.85 million purchase price was quite a drop from the original price tag, $3.795 million. But previous owner Tom Shadick, a retired importer of Wusthof-Trident Cutlery, still has reason to celebrate, considering that he and his wife, Patti, bought the place for $617,500 in 1995. The 4,868-square-foot brick Georgian, built in 1915, has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a completely remodeled kitchen, a family room with a sky-lit rotunda, and truly exquisite English gardens in a back courtyard. As for the Shadicks, they’re trying out a new home—right across the street. (Sale closed by Barry Berg Group of Minneapolis.)
Good news for sellers:
The number of homes for sale in the 13-county metro area is down 9.2 percent from August of last year, according to Edina Realty.

This residence at 926 Hampden Ave. in St. Paul has housed scads of husky heroic types, as well as two artists who fashion colorful ceramics. The 1894 building was originally Fire Station #13, just off University Avenue in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood. The owners, both ceramic artisans, purchased it from the city in 1979 and later added extensive living quarters to the rear of the building, as well as a two-car garage and a large screened porch. Now on the market for $1.2 million, down from the original asking price of $1.3 million, the 4,800-square-foot home includes a large studio space, a two-story foyer with the original fireman’s pole and wood lockers, five bedrooms, and four baths.
