Gilding the Lily
Mark Laub’s transcendent “After the Goldrush” cabinet is carved from a single slab of bubinga and bracketed by hand-carved calla lilies. Despite its heft, the cabinet appears to float on its sculpted maple frame. The solid wood piece is visually softened by exotic wood, abalone, and mother-of-pearl inlays of dragonflies, floral motifs, and other fanciful touches. $20,500; available through Xylos Gallery, 3020 W. 50th St., Minneapolis, 612-922-1702, www.xylosgallery.com.
